Narrative photography - creating visual stories for businesses

My clients are usually managers with a responsibility for communications and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Professionals in Communication, Business Development, Health & Safety, and People roles who use photography to change behaviour, create case studies, and communicate new initiatives.
  • Project Leads who use photography to document progress and aspects of work that an audience otherwise wouldn’t be able to witness.
  • Sustainability Communications Managers for organisations that require authentic photography to document sustainability initiatives and progress to share with their stakeholders.

My clients understand the power and influence of documentary photography and value a photographer with experience who understands the strategic objectives they want to achieve. We call it narrative photography.

Whether it is for internal communication, project updates, external engagement or just social history, I have spent the past 25 years creating stories for global brands, charities and the public sector.

Comms & TRAINING

Photography can be a powerful lever for behaviour change as part of internal communication because it can bring to life abstract policies making them feel real and personal. A photo of a colleague actually using a new safety procedure, or demonstrating the new way of working is far more persuasive than a written or verbal directive.

Whether it’s raising awareness, or explaining something new, stories are the best way to change behaviour because we can relate to stories, which is why visual stories are far more effective at engaging audiences.

Celebrating Work

Photography gives visibility to the people whose work rarely gets seen and creates a visual document of types of works and projects. Engineers on a factory floor, technicians in a workshop, teams working on remote sites – often their work is seen only when it’s completed and yet the complexity and challenges they have faced are not fully appreciated.

It might be that this type of work gets overlooked simply because it’s impractical for stakeholders to visit, therefore photography is way of bringing the work to an audience who otherwise wouldn’t be able to witness it.

Sustainability

Capturing and visually documenting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG), Social Impact and Sustainable Development initiatives is now an integral part of business strategy.

Photographic stories are an effective way to capture, document, share, and archive the contribution that companies are making to deliver a sustainable world for all; and it helps businesses to raise awareness of issues, bringing them to the attention of a wider audience.
